The Challenge this week is to rate my own “well-being” in a
physical, spiritual and psychological capacity. The scale is 1-10 (ten being
the most optimal).
Physical – 8 –I am 3 months pregnant, running 3-4 miles a
day and lifting weights (within safe parameters for pregnancy). The majority of
my diet consists of lean meat, veggies and fruits all of which I choose organic
to protect my growing baby from pesticides and growth hormones. I rarely eat
processed food containing preservatives or food colorings because they have
been researched to contribute to learning disabilities and allergies. I take it
very seriously. The “8” rating is because I am also human (and pregnant); I go
out to lunch with friends and share dessert, sneak leftover Halloween candy or finish my kid’s
grilled cheese at restaurants. I do the
best I can, and I am proud of it.
Goal: Keep on! I am happy with my physical health .. well
maybe less Halloween candy ;)
Spiritual – 6 – to me spiritual health means my personal connection
with all of life. For most people
spiritual health is fulfilled by religion or a connection with a “higher” being
or power. I am spiritual in the sense that I appreciate the world I am in. I
love being outside and appreciate nature, I love to travel and experience the
world and I am grateful for the blessings I have been given in my life. The “6”
rating is because more often I should take a step back from reality and
actually “see” life.
Goal: Start a daily gratitude journal even if it is
something small.
Psychological – 4 – I have a type A personality. I have road
rage, I like things in my control, I am stubborn and I get stressed way too
easily. This is my area of improvement.
Usually running and exercise will “reset” me – as mentioned in last week’s post
– and is my de-stress method. The “4”rating is because I need to change the way
I deal with things.
Goal: "Lord grant me the serenity to accept the things
I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know
the difference." - Saint Francis of
Assisi. Very well said St. Francis, very
well said. I will try to simply not allow things to bother me, the next time I
get cut off by a minivan on the beltway I will turn up the radio and drive on.
This week’s guided visualization, titled “Crime of the Century”
led me to the same feeling as last week. I
do not get much productivity out of the soothing guided voice tracks. Maybe
if I encountered a session where the soothing man’s voice guided me through competing
in an Ironman race? Maybe next time.
Thank you for reading my post this week! I welcome all
comments, questions, thoughts and criticisms.
Pursue!
Michelle
Michelle,
ReplyDeleteAs I read your post, I think of you as a very active person with a positive outgoing personality. I wish I had your dedication for healthy eating. I don't do too bad, but I do eat way too much sweets. I love dessert! Also wish I had your drive for exercise. I go but don't particularly love it.

Michelle,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading you're blog post this week. It made me feel that I wasn't the only person who had road rage, and the need to control things. I to think this the psychological area is where I need to improve, especially with my stressing about the small things. Working out is a great tool to unwind, I just wish I could find the time between work and school. Great quote to include too. Good luck with you pregnancy!

Good for you Michelle! It sounds like you are doing great! I think it is awesome that you are so aware of what your are eating and doing while being pregnant! I can relate to you on the personality A type and the road rage! I am personality A, codependent, but also survivor so I constantly have to work at maintaining the survivor personality and not being personality A or codependent. Lately, with the holidays I have yelled at many drivers while in my car on the way to work and even leaving work... I know that this is not a positive behavior and I am aware of it but I still do and will definitely work on not doing it! I absolutely love the serenity prayer too! I remind myself all the time about the message all the time especially during extreme times of stress. Thanks for sharing Michelle keep up the great work!!!
ReplyDeleteHello Michelle,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your blog for this week. You are a very active person and congrats with you and your bundle of joy. I to get stressed very easliy and i could work on my physological well being. Awesome Post.
Michelle, I benefited greatly from keeping a gratitude journal so I think that is a great idea! I would journal first thing in the morning and it set my day off while only taking about 10 to 15 minutes. It sounds like you recognize where you need to make changes which is difficult for all of us so bravo :-)
ReplyDeleteMichelle, it sounds like you are very mindful of your physical health which is great! We all deserve little treats now and then so don’t dock yourself too many points I love your idea of a gratitude journal. I started keeping one when I was going through a difficult time in my life. Things turned around for me within about 6 months. I found a job I enjoyed and met my soul mate and got married. Needless to say, I believe in living in a state of gratitude and the law of attraction. It’s great that you recognize things you need to change. In my opinion, that is half the battle. It is never easy to look at our faults and it takes courage and willpower to change.
